Did you know that headaches can be due to issues all the way down at the bottom of your spine? The blood supply to the head, and the drainage of blood from the head, travel through the neck. Any obstruction of the supply, or drainage of the head can lead to headaches. The whole body Osteopathic approach understands that one area of the spine, cannot be affected without affecting the rest of the spine. The neck (cervical spine) and the lower back (lumbar spine) share the same type of curve known as secondary curves, or anterior curves. These curves are developed during life while we craw and walk. Any issue with one of the curves will definitely involve issues with the other. The muscles in the neck can be on tension, or short with neck issues which can stem from lower back issues. These muscles can cause the blood supply to be slightly blocked due to the obstruction of the many arteries and veins in the neck involved in supply and drainage to the head. This may lead to headaches and migraines.
