Healing

We never do the right thing.

It is sad but true. So few of us take care of our body, or use the advantages we have to our benefit. 99% of us only go to a doctor when we are sick, and an even higher percentage of us only go to a manipulative professional when we are injured. The truth is, sickness is mainly due to our poor treatment of our body and poor diet. Regular visits to the doctor at least twice a year will allow people to see which areas of health they can improve on. However, most of us do not do this, and go to the doctor when they are severely sick. In many cases we go way too late, and this mistake ends up being fatal. Regular checkups and health consciousness can save people from stroke and heart attacks, sadly most of us do not see the doctor until the heart attack or the stroke occurs.

The second principle of Osteopathy is that the structure and function of the body are interrelated. Just like function of the body will be improved with regular visits to the doctor, structure of the body can be maintained with regular visits to an Osteopath, Chiropractor … etc. Pain in the body is very often a result of the structure being altered. The body is amazing at adapting and getting through the day with altered structure, to a certain point. In the same way a heart with 80% of its arteries clogged can keep beating, a body with an altered structure can continue without pain. However, there is a certain point when that heart’s arteries are too clogged to continue, or the structure of the body cannot do daily duties without pain.

Preventing pain from ever happening can be achieved with monthly visits to a body specialist who can manipulate the body back to center as best as possible. No one will completely achieve perfect symmetry. We all have our habitual movements which we do more often than others, leading to the body going away from center. However regular treatments, and regular exercises which are very gentle on the body can limit pain in the future. Every body is different, and every treatment by a professional will be different depending how the body presents itself during the assessment of the patient.

Prevention is the key to health. The body is an unbelievable creation with an incredible amount of healing capabilities. All it asks from us is to not abuse it, keep it moving, and feed it right. Sadly we abuse it and tear it apart, and then in a last ditch effort we try to stop the bleeding with a band aid.

Just like regular checkups to the doctor when you are feeling healthy is a great idea, regular checkups to a body specialist when you are not feeling pain is also a great idea. In my completely 100% biased opinion, an Osteopath should be your main choice 😊.
